BioNET-NAFRINET (www.bionet-nafrinet.net) held its LCC meeting on April 24-25, 2010 in Tunis, at the INAT (Institut National Agronomique de Tunis), back to back to the International Conference on "Taxonomy & Biodiversité" held by the ATUTAX (Association Tunisienne de Taxonomie) on 23rd April 2010.
Together with BioNET-Sec, and BioNET-EAFRINET, were present at least one representative from each of the six countries, i.e. Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. They represent either NACIs and/or CBD/GTI Focal Points. On this occasion, Mauritania endorsed BioNET-NAFRINET while Libya is on its way to join very soon. The bureau of ATUTAX has been invited to join the meeting as well as invited guests from Holland and Italy.
Taxonomic achievements made so far in the region have been reviewed. Dr. Wanja Kinuthia (Kenya) presented its own experience with EAFRINET. NAFRINET Priorities for the next three years have been set and tasks assigned (see Report).
The CBBC, Centre de Biotechnologie du Technopark de Borj Cedria (www.cbbc.rnrt.tn), Tunisia, has been designated NAFRINET’s NECI for the period 2010-2013.
